Distrito Pacifico Pastors' Blessing (Christmas 2024)
Soon after arriving in Mexico back in 2008, one of the first "events" that we helped with was the annual Foursquare pastors' Christmas posada, put on by Distrito Pacifico for the nearly 100 pastors of the district and their families. Our job was to get there early, then wait on tables (mas frijoles, hermana?), then handle cleanup and so on. We had a blast. We worked hard, but we ate too (the food was great)! The opportunity to meet all the pastors was enjoyed by every member of our visiting team (from our original facilitating church, Hope Chapel Huntington Beach, CA).
For some reason (mainly because it coincides with the annual Vista Marina event), that's the last one of these events where we worked with a visiting U.S. team to serve in this way. But this year we've agreed to do it again—for the first time since 2008. Why? Well, we've been tasked with finding ways to encourage our Mexican pastoral families, virtually all of whom work hard and often receive very little sustenance or help of any kind in return. To us, it feels like the best way to do this would be to bring our U.S. church teams to connect with the pastors personally and hang out with them, and (if possible) to present them with a gift of some sort, a small token of the meaningful, if new, relationship between them.
So this December, the Distrito Pacifico (Tijuana, Rosarito and all of Baja) has asked us to help with setup, cleanup and serving at their Christmas party (posada), and we've agreed to do so To do this, we need a team of 10. After serving, we'd also like to present the pastors with a short message of encouragement, plus 20-30 minutes of entertainment (Christmas music?), and finally, a gift that the whole family can enjoy. For this gift, we are open to either choosing and buying them ourselves—with funds being provided by the visiting church team— or having the visiting team bring the gift themselves.
(Note that this event happens at the same time as the Vista Marina outreach, so if you do one event, you won't be able to do the other.)
